Manasseh Azure’s comment on Stonebwoy’s decision to marry a dentist, other than a woman with the prevailing style of dancers or vixens who “dress almost naked and twerk” in his music videos, has received a lot of condemnations.
The expression of such strong disapproval to the journalist’s remark has come from persons with keen interest in Ghana’s art and entertainment industry – and the latest to speak on this saga is Ghanaian choreographer and dancer Nelly, real name Lillian Teiko.
The CEO of Kyses Studios, who is absolutely unhappy about Manasseh‘s “ignorant statement” noted in a video on Thursday that his comment proves he is uninformed about the reference he made.
“I’ve never met any block-headed human being in my life before. When I saw this thing, the first thing I asked was ‘Who is that chickenshit – who is he and where the hell is he from?,” she said.
The astute performer also revealed that she wished his license is revoked while cautioning him to “research and make sure the words that come out of your [Manasseh‘s] mouth are thought-through and are words that a knowledgeable person will use.”
The University of Education, Winneba graduate who mentioned costumes are not imposed on dancers added that “you should know that now, there are like 90% of graduates – like dancers – a lot of them are going to school.”
She also questioned why Manasseh decided to disrespect female dancers and reckoned that he should respect himself.
Read a transcribed version of Nelly’s rebuttal below:
So there is this journalist called Manasseh Azure or whatever the name is – this is even the first time I’m hearing of him. I’ve never met any block-headed human being in my life before. When I saw this thing, the first thing I asked was ‘Who is that chickenshit – who is he and where the hell is he from?’ How do you sit on TV and talk so bad about female dancers like they are the only beings on earth who are indecent; are you dumb or something? Some things are common sense – spending four (4) years in school to learn Journalism isn’t gonna teach you common sense. Every profession and what it demands. Nobody forces anybody to wear anything. I am a dancer, if I can wear body shorts and I’m contacted for a gig and I can wear it, I say yes. If I can’t, nobody forces me to wear it. And secondly, you should know that now there are like 90% of graduates – like dancers – a lot of them are going to school. I myself, I graduated from the uni[versity] and I bet I have a better class than you did. And you have the nerve to go and sit on TV and talk so much trash. Who is better? Aren’t there a lot of bankers who ‘sleep’ with their clients [employers] to get jobs so they don’t get fired? Tell me which profession that some of the women don’t do what you are saying they do? Who even thought you that? So if school couldn’t teach you common sense and life too couldn’t teach you common sense. This is so ignorant for a person who claims to be a Journalist and intelligent and have gone to school. This statement you made is the most ignorant statement I’ve ever heard anybody made. I think you need someone to tutor you. And I think if I had my way, your license should be taken away. Because what you said is something that…I can’t even think of it. I am trying to find logic to what you said and reason with you but it’s not even working. Who the hell do you think you are to actually disrespect all female dancers like that? Because you think you are better than any of them? You think you are better than me? Or you think your children, or your sisters or whoever is it you think, your family members are better than any of them? Respect yourself. And next time when you are asked to come and sit on TV and talk, make sure you do your research and make sure the words that come out of your mouth are thought-through and are words that a knowledgeable person will use.
