It is barely a fortnight to the Easter festivities [with most entertainment activities taking place in Kwahu in the Eastern region of Ghana] and as a result event organisers in Ghana, most especially in Accra are making sure their event(s) do not get close to this period.
GlammyNews.com however, takes a closer look at some five (5) major events happening tonight [March 21, 2015] in Ghana. Among them include the 2015 VGMAs Nominees Jam, GN Bank Awards, Black Podium, Accra Music Expo & Jama Competition as well as TV3’s Music Music.
The 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Nominees Jam heads to the Central regional capital Cape Coast this year and tonight there will be performances from Stonebwoy, Selina Boateng, Edem, EL, Afriyie, MzVee, Gifty Osei and many more at the Victoria Park. The “Unsunged” acts will also be performing.
The GN Bank Awards will also be held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) and Abrantie Amakye Dede, Shatta Wale, EL, Noella Wiyaala, Gifty Osei, Efya, Raquel as well as Joyce Blessing are billed to perform.
Another event taking place tonight is the Black Podium – a networking mixer for young entrepreneurs powered by Revamp Africa. This is taking place at the Bedouin Lounge Inside the Lizzy’s Sports Complex in East Legon.
Accra Music Expo and Jama Competition is part of Citi 97.3 FM’s MOGO Festival and it will take place tonight at the Mantse Agbonaa in Jamestown, Accra. Musicians Tinny, Adane Best and Dzajeloi will perform to the crowd and it will also be preceded with jama competition.
TV3 Ghana with support from Tigo Ghana takes their weekly musical concert “Music Music” to the Oninku Park inside Tema Community 1 this time and the likes of Kwaw Kese, Stay Jay, Galaxy, Keche, Vybrant Faya, Episode, Obaapa Christy and more are set to entertain their respective crowd.
There seem to be an impending doom for Ghanaian rapper EL as both Charterhouse and Spider Lee Entertainment – organisers of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and GN Bank Awards have advertised their programs acknowledging that the he will be performing. Unfortunately, these two (2) events are in two (2) different regions and definitely the “Shelele” crooner will find it difficult to choose which one to attend.
The VGMA Nominees Jam is definitely going to have the crowd and some of the best performances with regards the list of music acts on board. It is also in another region where such events are scarce. And remember it’s a freebie for all music lovers in the region.
Notwithstanding this, the competition for patrons will definitely be in Accra as the GN Bank Awards, Black Podium, Music Music and Accra Music Expo battle it out for audience. The Black Podium event wouldn’t be much affected looking at the fact that it has a very clear niche – an event for young entrepreneurs in the country. However, organisers of Music Music were smart to move it away from Accra to Tema [though in the same administrative region]. That decision will of course make the event pull the crowd [though limited]. Moreover, it is staging some of Tema’s big acts Kwaw Kese, Keche and Stay Jay. It is also another freebie.
The Accra Music Expo and Jama Competition may be losing out. Why? The event takes place about 5 km away from where arguably the biggest event for the night will be taking place. The jama competition perfectly fits the venue and the people involved but not enough musicians to rub shoulders with the GN Bank Awards. However, it is a freebie and may be just a perfect event for inhabitants.
The GN Bank Awards however may stand tall looking at the fact that it is set to assemble most media personalities, public figures and celebrities. A look at their music acts on bill also attests to the fact – the legendary Abrantie Amakye Dede, the “Dancehall King” Shatta Wale who commands a large fan base. The divas are also a class on their own. However, it is the only event this weekend with the highest ticket prices i.e. GHc50 and GHc100 for regular and VIP respectively.
